ISCDBU was founded in 2016 Russia and quickly evolved into a truly global scientific society promoting interaction among professionals on a tripartite (academia, government and business) and multi-national basis. ISCDBU intends to communicate and translate science to policymakers and the public. The establishment of continental branches in North America, Europe, Asia/Pacific, and Latin America in 2017 promotes ISCDBU and its tripartite governance approach as a global organization to foster international communication on environmental issues through research and education. The ISCDBU facilitates worldwide outreach to scientists, engineers, and managers and encourages development of additional ISCDBU member groups. The geographic units are represented on the Council, with representation keyed to their relative shares of membership. The ISCDBU Global Executive Director position was created in 2018 to support the development of a strong program of science and activities around the world and to coordinate the programs of the geographic units.
